Gianna M. Mistry (nee Limone) began dancing since before she could even remember life. She studied ballet for many years before falling in love with modern dance, which she began to study in her high school’s dance program. After pursuing an undergraduate degree in Spanish and teaching middle school Spanish for two years, Mrs. Mistry went on to receive her Masters of the Arts in Dance Education from New York University Steinhardt. In addition to her college training, she has received dance training in modern dance, ballet, West African and salsa at Steps, Alvin Ailey, Peridance, and Immanuel Dance Center.
In addition to performing and choreographing at NYU, Mrs. Mistry also had the unique opportunity to participate in a study abroad program in Uganda with Makerere University and Kampala Ballet and Modern Dance School. During her time in Uganda, she taught dance to Ugandan refugee children, as well as studied aspects of Ugandan dance with notable professionals in the field. She sincerely hopes to return to Uganda soon to continue this work!
Mrs. Mistry has performed and presented choreography in various venues throughout New York and New Jersey, including, University Settlement with Pi Dance Theater, New York Dominican Parade, NY Call Conferences, and McDonald’s Gospelfest among others. She currently choreographs and dances for the New Jersey-based dance company, Immanuel Dance Company, whose mission is to reach out to youth through the art of dance. Mrs. Mistry is extremely excited to be working with the young dancers at Orange Preparatory Academy and is eager to share her passion for dance, teaching, and life with them.
